May. " His intehtibns were to crofs the Hcllcl-pont, and march to Hungary to offer barde to the Chriftians, as he had fent to inform the king of Hungary. But this he has not done ; and the Hungarians, greatly ftrcngthened and emboldened by fuccours from France, have crofled the Danube -and entered Turkey, where they will deftroy all the poffeffions of Bajazet, for we have no force to oppofe tihem. They will now for ' certain be-fiege Nicopoli, which, although fufHciently ftrong to hold out for fome rime, muft be well de-fended. We are four brothers, knights, and re-lations to Bajazet : ' we ought, therefore, to attend to his concerns ; and, in confequence, I propofe the following plant I and my brother Maladie will go to Nicopoli to aflift in its defence * Ba-lachius (hall remain here to guard Brehappe, and RufHn fhall crofs the fea and haften to find Bajazet, and inform him of every thing that has happened, and the great army that has invaded Turkey, that he may take inftaot meafures to prevent the dis-honourable lofs of his poffeffions, and march fuch a force againft the Chriftians as may conquer them ; otherwife he will not only lofe Armenia that he has won, but his own territories affo ; for, according to appearances, the king of Hungary and the Chriftians are determined to attempt his com-plete deftruétion/ fhe three Turks approved of what their bro-ther had faid, and profnifed obedience. They made preparations accordingly -, and, in the mean time, the fiege wm laid before Nicopoli by the Chriftian
