formed the fervice ; then the bifhops of Lefcar and Oléron. The church was fplendidly illu-minated, and, during mail, four knights difplay-ed, in front of the altar, the emblazoned banners of Foix and Beam. The firft was fupported by fir Raymond de Châtelneuf, the fécond by fir Ef-paign du Lyon, the third by fir Peter de Quer, and the fourth by fir Menaut de Noailles. Sir Roger d'Efpaign made the offering of his fword, fupported by the bourg de Copane* and fir Peter Andrew de Béarn, governor of Lourde. The vifcount de Bruniquel offered the Meld, fup-ported by fir John de Châtelneuf and John de Chantiron. The helmet was offered by the lord Valentin de Béarn, fupported by fir Arnold de Roftem, and Arnold de Sainte Colombe. The war-horfe was offered by the lord de Corafle, fup-ported by fir Arnauton d'Efpaign and Raymonnet de Copane. Every part of the obfequies was moft honour-ably and magnificently performed according to the cuftom of the country. Sir Evan and fir Graçien de Foix, the two baftard-fons of the count, were prefent, as were the vifcount de Châ-telbon, all the barons from Beam, and fome from Foix; but the laft, as foon as the fervice was ended, mounted their horfes, and went to dine at Heritiel, two leagues diftant from Orthès. ; * The family of Copane.
