injured, as has been before ftated, • and the re- • fidue revert to their legal heirt, juft as if fuch perfons were deceafed, faving in all other refpects the privileges of our good town of Ghent : and if fuch wicked perfons cannot be arretted, fo as to . fuffer corporal punifhment, their effects fh^ll be confifcated as aforefaid. Item,—if any abufive language fhall be ut-tered, and come to the ears of any of our civil officers, againft this our order, we will that the perfon uttering fuch be punifhed by arbitrary £ne, fo as to ferve for an example to others, by the legal judges of fuch places before whom he or they fhall have been brought, faving the franchifes and privileges of thofe places. Item,—if any churchman be guilty of any acts againft thç faid pe?ce, let him be tranf-ferred to his ordinary, to be punished as an in-fringer of the pe%ce| according as the cafe may require. . Item,—this fame peace fhall be publicly pro-claimed and publifhed in the faid town of. Ghent,. and in all our other towns in Flanders. Item,—fhould any doubts or obfcurity appear on the face of the faid articles of peace, we declare, and will order our council to declare, that fuch doubts and obfcurities, fhould any fuch arife, fhall be interpreted and explained in fuch manner as fhall give fatisfaction to the* complainants. • • And we, the deans and commonalty of the town of Ghent, do by thefe prefents accept for our-jelves and for our allies thefe acts of clemency, pardon 104. -
