THE EARL OP PEMBROKE AND HIS COMPANIONS ARE RANSOMED.—-A SHORT TRTJCE BETWEEN THE [FRENCH AND ENGLISH.—BECHEREL SUR-RENDERS ON TERMS.—THE DEATH OP THE EARL OP PEMBROKE. A BOUT this time there was an exchange made ^ of the lands of the conftable of France and fir Oliver de Manny, which the king of Spain had given to them for their gallant fervices. The cpnftable exchanged his eftate of Soria in Caftille for the earl of Pembroke, who ' had been made prifoner off la Rochelle. Sir Oliver de Manny gave up his^ftate of Grette for fir Guifcard d'An-gle and his nephew William, Otho de Grantfon, John de Grinieres and the lord de Tannaybouton. ,WhiKfc this treaty was going forward, another was opened between the dukes of Anjou and of Lancafter, through the means of the two before mentioned prelates. • The duke of Lancafter fent, under paflpbrts, to the duke of Anjou at Pcrigord, (where he refided and governed as king or regent the lordfliips of England and France,) the canon de Robefart, and the lords William Hellunay and* Thomas Pouville. A truce was agreed on, be-tween thefe dukes and their allies, until the laft day of Auguft: and they engaged -themfelvcs to be, in the month of September, in the country of Picardy,— CHAP. IA
